I’m a licensed professional counselor based in Portland Oregon that loves to collect records, cuddle with my dogs, and procrastinate on house chores.
Hi, I’m David.
Welcome.
I was initially drawn to therapy because of a desire to heal the painful burdens of family and intergenerational trauma. From a blended family, I grew up in California, with many privileges, but without attuned emotional guidance and safety.
As an adult, both the passing of my mother and a divorce forced me to face some of my deep pain and emotional wounds. With the help of my own trusted therapists, I see my own therapeutic experiences as crucial in helping me support my clients.
Counseling brings me clarify about myself, my own needs and how to honor them, and how to be a supportive partner in relationships without abandoning myself.
I started my career working in community mental health in Portland, Oregon after receiving an M.A. in Applied Behavior Science from Bastyr University. Working with houseless youth in Oregon gave me an opportunity to bear witness to many challenges in family systems. I started a counseling private practice in 2016, where I continue to take a family systems approach to many of the challenges my clients bring in the door.
As a cis, hetero, white male, I hold intersectional identities that provide me privilege and safety that many folks, particularly people of color, are not afforded. I am committed to doing the work to understand and dismantle systems of oppression that live within me and around us.
My lived experiences and blind spots around my own privilege may mean that I am not always a good fit for certain clients. I encourage you to pursue therapy with a counselor that can provide you the support that you need.
